Mortgage Underwriter

Location : Farnborough

Salary £35-50,000 + benefits

My client based in Farnborough are seeking a Mortgage Underwriter to join their team! You would be responsible for providing vital support to all areas of the business, from criteria, property queries, title issues, tracing customers, Suspicious Activity Reports and fraud.

Daily Duties

To be a point of referral on complex cases from around the business, as to whether we can consider an application.

To accurately analyse and understand key elements of all mortgage applications, whilst ensuring adherence to all policies.

Where the case is of good quality but outside policy recommend to our funders as an exception for all approval.

Help protect the Company from the risk of fraud by using our anti-fraud systems such as CIFAS and SIRA to investigate and act upon information received in a timely manner.

To provide a professional, efficient, and high standard of customer service to the rest of business, customers, intermediaries, valuers, and solicitors.

To manually underwrite portfolio and complex BTL cases.

To recommend portfolio and complex BTL cases to our Funder.

To assist in maintaining and updating the lending policy, by researching, and recommending policy changes.

Develop and maintain co-operative relationships between all internal stakeholders and investigate all referrals in a professional manner. (Underwriting and Sales)

Work Fraud systems such as CIFAS, SIRA & Hunter to mitigate potential losses.

To investigate suspicious alerts identified by our fraud prevention systems.

Exercise personal lending discretion when assessing exceptions.

Carrying out Broker reviews, liaising with sales before removal of a Broker.

To assist in preparing Management Reports, ensuring they are prepared in time for Exco or Credit Committee meetings.

Develop clear and logical step-by-step plans which set out what needs to happen, when how and by whom.

Skills and Experience

Current or previous experience of working within the mortgage industry with a mortgage underwriting background and having currently or previously held a mandate.

Proven ability to exercise good commercial and professional judgment.

Effective communication skills both written and verbal.

Good attention to detail.

Adaptive to ongoing change.

PC literate with a knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Enthusiastic, flexible, and keen to learn and develop a career.

Knowledge of CIFAS & SIRA systems would be beneficial but not essential.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Job Description

My client based in Woking is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter to join their fast-growing team! You will be assisting with the growing volume or mortgage loan applications. Furthermore, you would be responsible for Packaged Applications and Decision in Principle enquiries to be underwritten in accordance with lending policy and price plans, FCS responsible lending practices, TCF principles and appropriate service standards.

Responsibilities

Ensure that all lending files are reviewed throughout the underwriting process in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures and TCF principles.

Ensure the accuracy of customer and loan related data that is captured within the underwriting forms, documents and internal systems.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key 3rd party business partners. These include all intermediary partners, solicitors and valuation panel managers

Achieve satisfactory performance levels in all KPIs to maintain/achieve underwriting mandate.

Provide support to the Head of Lending and more senior team members as required including policy and procedure enhancements and recommendations for cases outside of policy for further review.

Approving cases with individual mandate levels.

Maintain an up-to-date market awareness of both lenders and intermediaries working in the second charge space as well as the regulatory rules and guidance for the market.

Undertake relevant regulatory training to complete all three levels of CEMAP programme.

Provide suitable Mortgage advice, where possible, on applications received directly from customers.

Experience and Skills

Underwriting experience in a lending organisation.

5 years of experience in Underwriting.

Ideally CeMap qualified.

Strong team player who is committed, conscientious and hard working.

Strong attention to detail.

Can do attitude, flexible and solutions orientated.

Confident and clear communicator.

Open, honest, reliable and with integrity.
