Group/Division

SPTS wafer processing solutions include market-leading silicon etch, dielectric etch, dry-release etch, PVD, PECVD and molecular vapor deposition (MVD®), available with a range of wafer-handling options applicable to R&D, pilot production, or volume production environments. SPTS is headquartered and has its main manufacturing facility in Newport, UK, with additional manufacturing in Allentown, Pennsylvania. SPTS operates across 19 countries in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, and offers comprehensive service and spare parts support through a worldwide network of service centers and qualified local agents.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications
This role represents an excellent opportunity for a Technical Engineer who is looking to establish a career in a fast growing, award-winning, global semiconductor company with a clearly defined career development path!
Joining the multi-disciplined team, you will provide hardware maintenance support working on varied process module types to ensure we continue to achieve our exacting standards. This role will involve the maintenance and preparation of Lab equipment for the running of Customer Samples and R&D projects for our Deposition Business Unit.
Working continual shift work is required alternating between early (6am – 2pm) and late shift (1.30pm – 9.30pm on a weekly basis) with some requirement for occasional weekend work and be based in our Manufacturing Headquarters in Newport, South Wales
Your day to day responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining the Demo lab equipment and configuring the modules to the requested Customer demo configuration.
  • Planning and coordinating parts to perform the required configuration
  • Supporting R&D Engineers for new part introductions
  • Solving activities on a priority basis
  • Assisting in the installation and start-up of new equipment
  • Provide Breathing Apparatus (BA) / Emergency Response Team (ERT) support
  • Follow safe operating practices in the clean room
  • As part of the Technician team, sharing responsibility for planning and completing safe work plans on sophisticated systems containing varied energy sources and toxic gases, together with the relevant risk as required
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of our already excellent safety record
  • Maintenance records, documentation and maintaining an accurate parts inventory and the being able to clearly to a variety of customers and staff at all levels will be important.
  • Implementing service and safety bulletins, procedures, reports and engineering drawings.

  • Is a multi-skilled Engineer with a good understanding of Electronic/Electrical/Mechanical systems
  • Is hands on and capable of evaluating and fault finding
  • Has experience of gas systems
  • Has shown safe working practices due to working in an exacting environment
  • Is experienced in following operating practices and procedures
  • Is willing to undertake Breathing Apparatus training
  • Can work to tight timescales in a highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of similar semiconductor equipment would be an advantage, as would prior experience of electronic fault finding, RF test equipment and/or high Vacuum systems.
Your Qualifications:
Has HNC or equivalent level qualification in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or similar relevant field

Job Summary

To carry out Planned, Preventative and Reactive maintenance on complex, Mechanical, electro/Mechanical systems and process equipment, within a pharmaceutical environment, which includes Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) electrical / electronic systems, and electro pneumatic controls.

Job Specifics

  • Work within a Regulatory Environment.
  • Be able to interpret Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Drawings to order spare parts and diagnose equipment faults.
  • Create and deliver standard work W/I’s SOP’s SPL’s etc where appropriate.
  • Maintain and repair the equipment to validated specification
  • Evaluate breakdowns and stoppages and communicate in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate sound fault-finding Diagnostic ability (In both Mechanical & Electrical Skill Sets, and use fault finding tools ie Fishbone 5 Whys C&E etc) to remedy Production and Facility Equipment Issues.
  • Identify root cause and provide solutions to Issues working with relevant resource to resolve
  • Maintaining equipment and assets in a safe, compliant and reliable order.
  • Complete criticality assessments and reliability assessments
  • Deliver equipment/process improvements
  • Reduce MTTR and Increase MTBF (Identify root cause and Implement corrective measures)
  • Use downtime data to identify downtime issues and opportunities to Improve.
  • Develop Operator skills in respect to equipment operation – (Autonomous maintenance) equipment process knowledge coach and support.
  • Provide technical advice and solutions for equipment issues.
  • Be willing and able to coach others (Techs, Operator and Team Leaders) and develop understanding of others in equipment use and issues
  • Use predictive maintenance tools and Techniques to reduce equipment breakdown.
  • Provide “hands on” Engineering support across all Departments
  • Provide technical advice and solutions for equipment issues.
  • Complete and maintain GMP documentation in line with Current Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Coach and promote “Best Engineering Practices” within work group.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Multi-skilled (Mechanical and/or Electrical) engineer who can demonstrate a strong understanding of Automated Assembly Lines / Process Manufacturing equipment and site facility equipment, (The Facility Equipment is looked after on 12 Monthly Contracts using a third party)
  • You will have knowledge of and have worked with equipment using Servo drives Plc and HMI interfaces.
  • Demonstrate excellent fault finding techniques, in both Electrical & Mechanical Skill Sets, and be able to diagnose and repair failures of Production / Facility equipment.
  • Able to complete preventative maintenance programs to current regulatory requirements regarding Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and engineering legislation

Qualifications

  • BTEC ONC or C&G Technician or equivalent
  • Apprentice trained (with applicable vocational qualifications)
  • Ideally HNC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Siemens PLC’s (Desirable)
  • Fault Finding on Building Management Systems (BMS) TREND
