Job Description

Dragonfly Foods are manufactures of plant based food products and looking for Night Hygiene Operatives to join the team at its manufacturing site in Devon.

The purpose of the role will be to clean down all production machinery after each production run is completed in compliance with our Food hygiene and factory standards ensuring our productions lines are compliant and ready for the next order schedule.

Maintain high hygiene standards around the machine areas to maintain Food and Operator safety.

Our Hygiene Operatives play a key role in ensuring our production facilities run efficiently by minimising downtime between each production run.

Experience within the food manufacturing industry and/or a similar hygiene role would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given.

  • Run CIP (Clean in place) automated cleaning system to clean internal machine and pipe work,
  • Complete hygiene paperwork as required,
  • Chemical wash production machinery and factory areas,
  • Disassemble and reassemble machinery to ensure effective cleaning,
  • Remove waste from production areas,
  • Ensure changing areas are set up ready for production shift,
  • Safe handling of cleaning chemicals,
  • Ensure you are wearing the correct PPE at all times.

Shifts Available – 18:00pm to 02:00am

A £300 retention bonus will be paid to successful applicants following 3-Months of successful employment. (Subject to Terms).

Night Hygiene Operative

Barking, Essex


Salary: £12.60 per hour

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week: Sunday to Thursday 9pm to 5.30am

Due to our continued growth, we have openings for two skilled hygiene operatives, who have experience of deep cleaning production areas including structural, food contact equipment, machinery, and drainage. Working in a small team, you will be responsible for cleaning the factory following a day of production to ensure the environment is safe for producing food the following day.

We supply London’s top Restaurants, Hotels, Bars & Catering Companies with fresh seasonal fruit & vegetables, salads and juices.


The Hygiene Operative responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work efficiently and productively to ensure all food production areas are cleaned in accordance with cleaning schedule.
  • Ensure electrical and other sensitive equipment is adequately protected and covered before cleaning work commences.
  • Deep cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings, drains, tables, equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Report any damage, issues, or incidents to supervisor in a timely manner to enable support and corrective actions.
  • Use chemicals and tools provided correctly and effectively to ensure all items are cleaned thoroughly.
  • Work with Production team to ensure hygiene work is carried out with consideration for any continuing production activities.
  • Follow H&S instructions to keep yourself and your team safe and happy at work.
  • Supporting other departments as and when needed.


To be successful in your application you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience of working in a food manufacturing facility within the hygiene/cleaning team.
  • COSHH certification is essential.
  • Able to carry out physical work for duration of working hours.
  • Able to lift and move heavy equipment using correct manual handling methods.
  • Are Comfortable working in wet/chilled environment (waterproof clothing provided)

£12.65 ph (Made up of a basic rate of £11.90 & night allowance).

We are currently recruiting to our Night Hygiene team and are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working hygiene operative with high standards. The role involves ensuring production areas are cleaned ready for start up the following day.
Duties include removing debris and dirt from all surfaces, dismantling certain machinery to allow cleaning access, using a pressure washer to remove tough debris and grease and conducting deep cleaning as required.
