Role Description
This is a full-time multi-site role for an Area Manager Nursery with the Explorers Group . The Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing nursery operations, managing staff, ensuring adherence to safeguarding policies, and maintaining clear communication with parents and stakeholders. As a Nursery Area Manager, you will oversee the operations, management, and success of multiple nursery settings. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that each nursery meets and exceeds the highest standards of childcare and education, while supporting and developing Nursery Managers and their teams.
You will lead and support the Nursery Managers to establish a high quality practice across nursery through both knowledge and understanding of the sector.
You will support the growth of the nursery group and play a key role in embedding and transitioning future actions into the group.
You will be responsible for maintaining quality assurance standards through continuous improvement across the nurseries in regards to nursery compliance and inspection readiness.
Qualifications
- Degree level or equivalent
- Full and Relevant Childcare Qualification L6/L7
- Management Qualification – Desirable
- Designated Safeguarding Lead Training- or willingness to attend

- Safeguarding and Safeguarding Children skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Previous experience in a childcare management role
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- Relevant childcare qualification
- Quality Assurance/OFSTED experience
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the nursery, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children.
- Lead and manage staff, fostering effective communication and teamwork.
- Implement quality assurance measures to maintain high standards of childcare and early childhood education.
- Develop and execute the Early Years Curriculum that promote children’s growth and development.
- Manage and achieve financial budgets
- Engage with parents and guardians to provide updates and address concerns regarding their children’s progress.
- Leading quality assurance role with regards to OFSTED
Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple nurseries, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Ensure concerns or risks are highlighted immediately to the Directors, and actions plans in place to mitigate any concerns or risks
- To continually review management systems, structures, and quality of the setting to ensure sustainability and continuing development of an effective organisation responding to changing circumstances
- To ensure registrations are up-to-date and support with inspections
- To be the organisations Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead
- To manage Managers through mentoring, coaching, regular supervision and appraisals
- To embed a culture of continuous improvement in relation to service, quality and efficiency, and to foster strong team working
Quality Assurance:
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of care and education provided in each nursery, implementing improvement plans as necessary.
- Complete audits of each nursery
- Establish a EYFS quality metric across all nurseries to ensure “good” is a minimum standard achieved
- Ensure that the EYFS framework is embedded through training and observations with oversight of how this is achieved via managers
- Support the implementation of Observation, Assessment and Planning systems within nurseries and ensure it is effective through reviewing cohort tracking
- Provide feedback to Managers, Teams, and the Director relating to the quality and standards of childcare and education in the nurseries
- Attend multi -agency meeting as relevant
Team Development:
- Support and mentor nursery managers, fostering a culture of continuous professional development and excellence.
- Ensure Nursery Managers are developing their staff, completing supervisions and continuously reviewing internal plans against EYFS
- Work effectively with Safeguarding and SENCo to ensure that all aspects of safeguarding is managed appropriately and reported in a timely fashion Support the Nursery Managers and SENCo, ENCO, DSO’s
Financial Management:
- Manage budgets, control costs, and achieve financial and capacity targets for each nursery.
- Liaise with suppliers ensuring that service and/or product price and quality is appropriate
Marketing:
- Ensure that information on the web site and marketing collateral is up to date
- Participate in all activities related to nursery publications, advertising, public relations, the web site and other marketing activities designed to promote the nursery
- Assist with the creation and on-going management of the nursery brand.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure all nurseries comply with health and safety regulations and provide a safe environment for children and staff.
Stakeholder Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, staff, and local authorities, addressing any concerns and feedback promptly.
- Build effective team culture
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement strategic plans to drive growth and improve the overall performance of the nurseries.
- Work with Directors to assess future opportunities for further nurseries.
