We are currently recruiting for an Occupational Health Nurse to join our team.


This is a part time position, 3 days per week, working on-site for our client in Cambridge.

This role is responsible for supporting the service delivery of the full remit of occupational health services including:

  • Case management
  • Health surveillance
  • Travel Health
  • Medical assessments


Key Responsibilities

  • Advising and delivering nurse led fitness for work medical assessments.
  • Delivering medical screening results to the physicians for doctor led medical assessments.
  • Providing support for sickness absence management, giving advice as required on the referral process and promptly triaging referrals into the service for the booking team.
  • Complete accurate reporting to the expected standard of the business and within agreed timeframes/KPI.
  • Recognising and escalating cases appropriately to an Occupational Health Physician either via health surveillance or sickness absence management.
  • Delivering management reports from nurse lead sickness absence consultations addressing the client organisation’s needs.
  • Where required making the necessary requests for GP/specialist reports to support the decision-making process.
  • Advise clients on their risk assessment process to facilitate delivery of appropriate health surveillance requirements, in line with the appropriate Legislation.
  • Working with IT and the OH Clinical team to develop and take ownership of MCL Medics’ electronic health surveillance system.
  • Maintaining accurate individual medical records which comply with internal business standards and clinical standards.
  • Maintaining effective communication with colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team, managers, clients and external agencies to ensure a seamless service delivery
  • Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Supporting clinical governance issues and best practice standards including regular clinical audits.
  • Support lead nurses in relation to Client Reviews.


Essential Qualifications

  • Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered General Nurse, RN1, RNA
  • Occupational health qualification at Degree level desired but not essential
  • HAVS: a Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM) approved training course in hand-arm vibration syndrome, or equivalent level of competency desirable but not essential.
  • Noise-induced hearing loss: a British Society for Audiology approved course for industrial audiometricians, or equivalent level of competency desirable.
  • Respiratory: Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP) diploma, or equivalent level of competency.


Experience

  • Previous experience in Occupational Health with a background covering various occupational health settings and environments.
  • Experience of Travel Health or willingness to undertake training in this area.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Equality Act in relation to Occupational Health
  • Working knowledge of supporting clients with sickness absence management
  • Strong verbal and written English Communications Skills

Purpose of role:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) to join our on-site Occupational Health team. This role is integral to supporting our Occupational Health service, a specialist branch of medicine passionate about the critical relationship between work, health, and the working environment.

The OHA will play a key role in preventing work-related illness and injury by providing expert clinical advice and recommendations to the company. Reporting to the Occupational Health Manager, this position is both clinical and autonomous, requiring a confident specialist who can manage their own caseload effectively.


What’ll you be doing:

  • Providing specialist advice and actionable recommendations to line managers and HR in relation to employees’ health concerns;
  • Complete fitness for work Health Assessments for new starters;
  • Attend regular meetings with HR and Operational Managers, providing an overview of OH activities and updates on employee health issues including absence cases;
  • To assist the Occupational Health Manager to supervise, review and develop Occupational Health Policies and procedures to ensure they meet current legislation and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) mentorship on best practice and clinical standards recommendations;
  • Support the Occupational Health Manager and deputise as necessary;
  • Assist with the implementation and running of the health surveillance programme in line with HSE guidelines including COSHH; Control of Noise AT Work Regs (2005), Control of Vibration at Work Regs (2005) and ensure clinical standards are met;
  • Support management with the completion of individual risk assessments and workplace assessments where a health need has been identified as a concern;
  • Support the site in developing its Mental Health wellbeing strategy;
  • Proactively support the organisation in the delivery of wellbeing initiatives;
  • Support with facilitating environmental surveys and provide Occupational Health related advice to collaborators;
  • Deliver presentations / training sessions to promote health and wellbeing;
  • Take part in departmental audits.


What you’ll have:

  • NMC Level One registration;
  • Relevant OH Diploma or Degree;
  • SCPHN – Preferable;
  • To be able to form effective and proactive working relationships with Operations Management teams, HR, Health and Safety, Senior Leadership team, Employees.
  • To support the Union in understanding the role and purpose of Occupational Health.
