43K Wilderness Solutions is looking for a seasonal, full-time Park Supervisor to a lead team of park technicians working in the Buttle Lake area of Strathcona Provincial Park. During the early and late season you will provide customer service and complete maintenance tasks in the campgrounds and day-use areas. Through the main operating season, your time is focused on supervising a team of five park technicians to provide excellent customer service to our park visitors and complete maintenance tasks in the campgrounds and day-use areas.

We operate Cape Scott and Strathcona Provincial Parks, design and construct outdoor recreation facilities, and provide professional consulting and management services. We have a strict no pets policy – we love pets, we have pets but we cannot bring them to work or camp.

Responsibilities

– Provide excellent customer service and park visitor experience
– Supervise park technicians in campground settings to ensure park operations are completed on schedule, budget and to quality expectations
– Maintain a variety of outdoor recreation facilities, including campgrounds, trails, marine campsites, and pit toilets to BC Park Facility Standards and Specifications
– Orient, train and evaluate staff throughout the season
– Develop schedules and work plans, and delegate to team members
– Complete quality control field reviews
– Champion and support park technicians in our Service Plus initiatives which could include but are not limited to firewood and propane sales, boat rentals, etc
– Maintain detailed and accurate park records
– Cash handling
– Manage park supplies such as cleaning, fuel, propane, etc.
– Maintain equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, etc.
– Work with BC Parks’ reservation system
– Implement site-specific Occupational Health and Safety Work Plans and Environmental Management Plans
– Occasionally direct subcontractors and suppliers

Relevant Qualifications

– Customer service, hospitality, and tourism experience
– A positive attitude and ability to motivate co-workers and crews
– Experience supervising teams in an operational setting
– Experience working with BC Parks Facility Standards, Specifications, Quality Control framework, reservation system, etc.
– Excellent communication skills
– Power tool experience
– Chainsaw experience
– Trailer towing experience
– PCOC or higher, Marine First Aid and experience on lakes an asset
– Understand WorkSafe BC requirements and recognition and mitigation of hazards
– Natural Resource diplomas and degrees, Parks Law courses are considered an asset

Required Certifications

– Class 5 Driver’s License
– Basic First Aid plus transportation endorsement

Job Conditions

– Work in unserviced and remote areas
– Work independently, or with 1-2 crew members
– Work and live in rustic accommodations (cabins, tents, yurts, etc)
– Working on 5-day shifts
– Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required – hours of work will vary with the season
– Must be flexible and willing to adapt to unforeseen schedule and workplan changes due to weather or other environmental conditions
– Working in adverse weather conditions
– Driving on gravel roads
– Working in and around boats and helicopters
– Anticipated start date is beginning/mid-April, running till early October, with the potential of a contract extension for the right candidate
– Strict no pets policy – we love pets, we have pets and we are unable to bring them to work and into camp

Benefits Package

– Competitive hourly wage ranging from $23.25-28.50 based on experience and ability
– Free cabin accommodation at Park Headquarters for the duration of employment (option of permanent for the right candidate)
