Purpose of the Role:

Reliability is essential to our championship winning chances. The appointment of a designated quality engineer to support and develop our supply chain is vital to accelerate and yield improvements at all stages of the cars lifecycle. Working through the initial concept teams including design engineering and the supply chain, the role covers the full supply chain & manufacturing departments, covering a variety of components and manufacturing techniques.


Role Dimensions:

Based at MTC reporting to the Director of Quality; the role will involve regular travel to suppliers and test facilities.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work with the design team on all aspects of manufacture to improvement reliability and RFT.

  • Work with suppliers & manufacturing centres to utilise best practice quality principles during manufacture and help solve non-conformances, improve quality and right first-time approach.

  • Improve reliability and RFT, focusing efforts on pre-manufacturing processes to embed quality assurance into the product.

  • Work with the inspection department and manufacturing to resolve non-conformances and harness learning for future reference in design for ease of manufacture.

  • Develop and control Audit database to ensure audit records are retained and NC’s are resolved.

  • Use quality data to drive which suppliers are used in an autonomous and digitally controlled way.

  • Conduct regular external supplier audits.

  • Attend and input into reliability meetings to ensure supplier issues are captured and actioned

  • Work with the inspection department and manufacturing to resolve non-conformances and harness learning for future reference in within the supply chain.

  • Work with the reliability team to resolve faults and harness learning for future reference within the supply chain.

  • Report all quality concerns directly to appropriate stakeholders and lead drive for resolution.

  • Proactively lead problem solving activities for quality concerns and component failures

  • Create and deploy inspection control procedures.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive Quality Engineering Experience

  • Extensive skilled auditor

  • Capable of self-managing time

  • Degree in production / mechanical engineering or equivalent.

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt

  • Skilled in problem solving techniques and auditing

  • In depth knowledge of Carbon Fibre and Metallic manufacture

  • Thorough knowledge of metrology techniques and terminology

  • Experience with technical problem solving essential

  • Experience and knowledge in FMEA & process mapping

  • PC literate with good working knowledge of the MS office suite

  • Team player with a proactive approach

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail

  • Clear & effective communicator

VACANCY: Quality Engineer

LOCATION: Rotherham, S60 (Close to Meadowhall, Sheffield)

ABOUT US:

MTL Advanced is a Yorkshire-based steel engineering and manufacturing company operating from a 300,000 sq. ft. facility in Rotherham.

Reporting to the Quality, Health and Safety Manager, we are looking for a resilient Quality Engineer to join this vital team. You will lead quality-related improvements through quality improvement initiatives and the non-conformance system. Your responsibilities will include identifying root causes of quality issues, working collaboratively with the production team to implement corrective actions, and establishing an effective audit program within the manufacturing facility.

You must be an excellent communicator and presenter, capable of liaising with and influencing key personnel and relevant department heads.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

· Review of ISIR and FAIR reports prior to submission

· First point of contact for internal quality concerns

· Investigate Non-conformances, both internal and external and implement CAPA measures

· Compilation and submission of PPAP documents as requested by customers

· Provide inspection support as required (Absence/ Workload)

· Review and approval of concessions prior to submission to customers

· Conduct daily QA audits

· Conduct and lead 8D investigation reports issued by QHSE Manager

· Development of process controls for specific processes

· Generate Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCAR’s) follow up to ensure effective CAPA are implemented

ABOUT YOU:

· Recent / relevant experience in a similar Quality role within metal fabrication / engineering

· Demonstrable understanding of quality management principles, methodologies and core tools

· Precision in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documents

· Highly motivated, proactive, team-orientated and outcomes driven

· A flexible approach to be able to adapt to changing and challenging requirements

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to generate innovative concepts and ideas

Quality Engineer

Reporting to the Departmental Manager and working as part of the dedicated Quality Team you will be responsible for maintaining and improving all aspects of the Company’s Quality Management Systems & Processes.

The Role:

Through product and process improvements, the Quality Improvement Engineer will be given autonomy to take ownership of systems, products, and processes, whilst ensuring effective communication with all customers, suppliers, and internal colleagues on quality related issues.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure that all Customer quality requirements are complied with during manufacture
  • Ensure total customer satisfaction by resolving external and internal concerns promptly using appropriate continuous improvement methodology (PDCA/8D)
  • Responsibility for making informed decisions regarding line stoppages due to quality problems
  • Dimensional evaluation of products to ensure compliance with agreed CAD & Drawing data
  • Control of Sample Approval of new Product, including compiling of PPAP & FAI documentation
  • Conduct internal and external quality audits to continually identify areas for improvement within the business and suppliers
  • Creation of process flow diagrams / quality plans for new products, including developing programs for new product, patrol, in-process, and final release inspection routines while supporting the continuous improvement of the Manufacturing Process Sheets (MPS)
  • Monitoring and measuring of quality KPI’s
  • Manage the FMEA process, identify and implement system improvements following Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Assist in the training of quality awareness, working with operational supervisory and management teams
  • Compile with all Health & Safety procedures
  • Any other duties which may be necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • HND / Degree or 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing environment within a similar Process / Manufacturing role.
  • Ability to identify problems, find route and implement robust & sustainable solutions to these problems.
  • Able to provide quick response to internal & external customers
  • Knowledge of 8D, FMEA, Control Plan, APQP, PPAP
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 & ISO 9001
