Security Guard/Security Officer
Job Description
MacRail is experiencing continued growth and is currently recruiting Security Guards for work on railway engineering sites. As the market leader in the Site Access industry, we operate nationally and offer numerous opportunities for flexible and consistent work.
Key Details:
- Work Location: Oxford Train Station and surrounding areas.
- Shift Patterns:
- 24/7 coverage required, with shifts running Monday to Sunday.
- Midweek shifts (Monday to Friday) and weekend shifts (Friday night to Monday morning).
- Minimum project duration: 18 months.
- Shifts range from 1-5 shifts per week (10-40 hours).
- Requirements: Local candidates with an SIA license.

- Pay and Bonuses:
- Network Rail offers substantial bonuses for shifts worked over Christmas/New Year, with shifts paid at double time and additional bonuses (approximately £450 per shift).
- Time and a half pay on Bank Holidays.
- Full pay for cancelled shifts with less than 24 hours’ notice.
- Full pay if shifts are completed early.
- Additional Opportunities:
- Possibility of assignments on construction sites (CSCS card required) or other security roles (SIA license required) through Munnelly Group.

Terms and Conditions
- Employment will be through Bishopsgate, our sister umbrella company.
- Weekly payment with options for holiday pay to be paid weekly or retained for annual leave.
- Umbrella service deductions are competitive and will be explained during registration.
- Hourly assignment rates average £15 per hour, with take-home pay ranging from £11.44 to £12 per hour after deductions.

Job Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
- Act as the worksite’s administration center, ensuring access control and the safety of on-site materials.
- Regular patrols of the premises to ensure safety and security.
- Respond to and report any suspicious activity, security breaches, or emergencies.
- Verify identification and credentials of visitors, employees, and contractors.
- Enforce company policies and ensure compliance with safety and legal regulations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain professional and courteous interaction with employees and visitors.
- Report incidents such as theft, vandalism, or accidents.
- Handle complaints and resolve conflicts as necessary.
- Inspect and report maintenance or safety issues.
- Maintain detailed logs and prepare reports for management or law enforcement.
Required Criteria:
- Valid SIA license.
- Availability for both midweek and weekend shifts (Friday night through Monday morning).
- Confident in managing groups, delivering safety information, and addressing challenges.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Assertive and able to enforce safety and PPE compliance.
Preferred (but not essential) Experience:
- Knowledge of railway track renewals.
- Previous security or site access experience.
- Familiarity with the phonetic alphabet.
