Special School Nurse

Hours per week : 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4pm, Term-time only

Salary: Band 5 (pro rata)

Interview Dates: 10th and 11th February 2025

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (Child or Learning Disabilities) to join our team at Diverse Abilities. This post is based at Langside School, working closely with families and other professionals to provide quality care for the children and young people.

Overview of role:

To be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for the pupils at Langside School. Implementing evidenced based practice enabling pupils to gain optimum access to their education provision. The postholder will always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.

More about the role:

  • To support pupils to access education by ensuring all health needs are met in a timely and safe manner
  • To contribute towards the design and delivery of clinical training and competency assessment to staff within school
  • To assist in supporting pupils and families through health care investigations, and treatment.
  • To actively promote the need for dignity and respect for pupils, family, staff and visitors at all times.
  • To implement the hygiene and infection control and prevent policy
  • To work as part of a multi disciplinary team, ensuring adequate cover of the nursing workload in Diverse Abilities and supporting the provision of excellent care.
  • To ensure the maintenance of accurate, comprehensive patient records in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council standards.
  • To be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care given to more junior colleagues and support assistants.
  • To maintain, update and develop own personal and professional knowledge and skills by participating in appropriate professional development activities.

Essential Skills Required

  • Registered nurse (RN(child) or RN( LD) or with relevant experience working with children
  • Full, UK Manual Driving License
  • Knowledge of NMC codes of conduct and professional obligations
  • 2 years post qualifying experience – Desirable but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Committed to continual professional development
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrate respect of individuals’ rights and the necessity to maintain dignity
