The successful candidate will work in the responsible business team, shaping and delivering client facing social value activities. Other responsibilities will include social value programme design and delivery as well as executing resident liaison, community investment activities and S106 employment & skills targets.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Social value management.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of social value programmes and activities.
  • Supporting work winning through bid support, innovation, client liaison, upskilling of colleagues and raising Mace’s profile externally.
  • Assisting clients to maximise social value through procurement processes.
  • Identifying social value KPI’s and processes to monitor delivery.
  • Supporting non-financial and financial reporting of social value.
  • Setting targets, measure and report the social value created through a course of a construction project.
  • Ensuring a coordinated approach to ensure S106 contractual obligations are formally issued to our supply chain in tenders and contracts.
  • Contributing towards the quality standards/processes guiding the Mace Way.
  • Planning and implementing the delivery of community investment activities on projects including volunteering initiatives, charity fundraising, community refurbishment projects.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach.
  • Planning and managing meetings with local communities and stakeholders when required (some meetings may require out of hours attendance).
  • Dealing with queries and issues in a professional manner and effectively deal with conflict as and when required.
  • Engaging with schools/colleges for site visits, work experience programmes in line with Mace’s strategic objectives.
  • Providing information, advice and guidance, CV development, training needs analysis, and construction industry context to job seekers.
  • Social value monitoring and reporting.
  • Creating consultancy reports that meet identified project requirements.
  • Creating reports for construction clients, project directors including economic valuation of social value outcomes.
  • Managing the S106 monthly monitoring and reporting requirements for projects and submit to the relevant council and client where necessary.
  • Identifying and producing case studies to assist with communicating best practice.
  • Performing any other ad hoc social value duties as required.

You’ll need to have:

  • Good understanding of the latest social value drivers, policies and delivery mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of non-financial value reporting frameworks and economic valuation tools e.g. TOMS, Thrive.
  • You are digitally savvy
  • You can build lasting client relationships.
  • Solid administration and IT skills – advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Publisher.
  • Desirable but not essential, to have a construction social value background
  • Be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.

You’ll also have to:

  • Suitable professional membership/s (i.e. IEMA, ICRS, CIEMA, ICE, RICS) (or equivalent).
  • Curious: ability to investigate, research, question and continuously improve.

  • Programme engagement.
  • Interpersonal skills /self-awareness.
  • NZC, Scope 1-3 emissions.
  • TCFD / TNFD.
  • Setting a scope, objectives, target’s / industry benchmarks LETI, RICS.
  • Building performance standards – Part L & Future,
  • Standards – EN15978, ISO 14026 Standards PAS 2080 (50, 60, 35),
  • Frameworks i.e. UKGBC, SBT, TPI.
  • TM 54 and how to use them.
  • Embodied carbon and how to drive reductions – LCA – One click.
  • Electrification – heating and cooling demand/supply.
  • Governance & risk (PMO).
  • Interaction at different levels (executive vs project management) / (design team vs supply chain).
  • Building sustainability into contracts & procurement.
  • Building sustainability into the design process.
  • Biodiversity, nature-based solutions, green infrastructure
  • Social value and quantification methodologies i.e. TOMS, V2S, SV Portal.
    Sustainability certification (BREEAM, LEED, WELL, etc).

Sustainability Manager – 12 month fixed term contract

Your role:

You will develop our sustainability initiatives, promoting environmentally responsible practices across the company. Collaborating with various teams, you will refine policies, ensure compliant reporting, and come up with sustainability initiatives of all kinds. You will create impactful content to support these initiatives and engage with staff in forums and more widely to embed sustainable thinking at Pan Macmillan.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Enhance the internal and external visibility of Pan Macmillan’s sustainability policies and initiatives

  • Prioritise and implement sustainable actions within the “Protect our Planet” ESR initiative

  • Lead the development and implementation of sustainability awareness initiatives and encourage sustainable practices company-wide

  • Work on the Group CSRD reporting requirements ensuring accurate and compliant data

  • Develop and implement sustainability policies across the business


Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

  • A demonstrable passion for sustainability and the ability to inspire others

  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and data collection processes

  • Proficiency in creating digital content and engaging with media

  • A collaborative approach while working across various teams

  • Experience in successfully implementing sustainability initiatives and programmes

  • Clear and effective communication skills

  • Expertise in project management with the ability to drive initiatives forward and maintain momentum to achieve set goals.

This is a full time, 12 month fixed term role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
