Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for a Systems Administrator to join our Aberdeen, Scotland office.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Kraken Robotics is seeking a highly skilled Systems Administrator to manage and maintain our hybrid Active Directory (AD) environment, Microsoft Intune, Office 365, infrastructure hardware, and other critical IT systems. The ideal candidate will ensure seamless integration across platforms, enforce security best practices, and provide Tier 3 support for operational issues. This role requires expertise in AD, endpoint management, system security, and infrastructure maintenance, along with a proactive approach to IT system optimization, project involvement, and documentation.
Responsibilities will include:
Hybrid Environment Administration and Automation
- Manage on-premises and Entra AD environments, ensuring seamless integration and synchronization.
- Configure security groups, organizational units (OUs), user roles.
- Develop, implement, and troubleshoot Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Entra conditional access policies for security and operational requirements.
- Deploy and manage device configuration policies, compliance rules, and software distribution within Microsoft Intune.
- Administer Office 365 applications, including Exchange, Teams (telephony and policies), and SharePoint, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Maintain and configure virtual environments, including Windows and Linux virtual machines.
- Utilize automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Azure Automation) to streamline administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Security and Compliance
- Apply and enforce modern security best practices, including Zero Trust Architecture principles.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with security baselines, conducting regular audits of user accounts, permissions, and group memberships.
- Implement advanced threat detection tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender for Identity, Azure Sentinel).
- Perform vulnerability assessments and support penetration testing efforts as needed.
- Respond to and mitigate AD-related security incidents, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
Monitoring, Maintenance, and Performance Optimization
- Proactively monitor system health and performance using advanced monitoring tools.
- Address synchronization issues between on-premises AD and Entra AD environments.
- Ensure systems are up to date with the latest patches, firmware updates, and configurations.
- Maintain high availability of IT services through effective disaster recovery planning and routine backups.
- Develop and maintain performance metrics (e.g., SLA adherence, uptime) for critical systems.
Collaboration, Training, and Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, processes, and changes for operational transparency and continuity.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior IT staff on AD, Intune, and Office 365 operations.
- Lead or contribute to IT projects, such as system migrations or upgrades, ensuring clear project plans, timelines, and deliverables.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to recommend and implement technology improvements.
- Contribute to the organization’s IT roadmap by identifying and implementing new tools and solutions that align with business objectives.
Networking and Facilities Management
- Manage and troubleshoot network connectivity issues to support IT system operations.
- Maintain and support IT-enabled facility systems, including alarms, entry systems, and production-related equipment.
- Update and maintain virtual host systems, including BIOS and other hardware configurations.
- Provide Tier 3 support for complex issues, acting as an escalation point for unresolved Tier 2 incidents.
- Ensure business continuity for ERP and IMS systems through proactive administration and troubleshooting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience), or;
- IT related post-secondary degree or diploma.
Experience
- At least 5 years of IT systems administration experience with a focus on Active Directory and Microsoft Intune.
- Proven expertise in developing, implementing, and troubleshooting Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Entra conditional access policies.
- Strong background in deploying and managing device configuration policies, compliance rules, and software distribution using Microsoft Intune.
- Experience with endpoint security and mobile device management (MDM) strategies.
- In-depth experience administering Office 365 applications such as Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams (including telephony), and SharePoint.
- Experience maintaining and configuring virtual environments, including managing virtual machines on platforms like VMware, Hyper-V, or AWS Virtual Machines.
- Familiarity with Linux server management, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting, is a strong asset.
- Experience applying security best practices, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with organizational security baselines.
- Proven ability to implement advanced security solutions, such as threat detection tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender for Identity, Azure Sentinel) and vulnerability management.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting network connectivity issues as they relate to system operations.

- Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Networking fundamentals and troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with Linux system management is an asset.
