Training & Awareness Raising Officer
Job Description
The Havens are advertising for Maternity Cover for 12 months for their Training & Awareness Raising Officer, full-time OR part-time job-share.
Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent, have excellent organisational skills, with experience of project planning and marketing, be confident when public speaking or teaching to large groups, and have the ability to build professional relationships with external colleagues / professionals. The post holder will need to be able to have flexible working hours, with some work over the evenings and weekends.
The Havens are London’s Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) based at Camberwell, Paddington and Whitechapel. We provide client-led and trauma-informed services which are delivered in partnership with police and third sector services. Our services include acute healthcare and support in age-appropriate settings; police and self-referred forensic medical examinations; follow-up services which address the client’s health, psychosocial and on-going needs, as well as direct and ongoing access to an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA).
The Havens provide specialist training to healthcare professionals and police officers, both in London and within the UK, as well as awareness raising sessions to target audiences.
- To co-ordinate a training programme (covering sexual assault and related issues) for Haven staff, health/social care workers, and voluntary agencies in ongoing consultation and liaison with all stakeholders. To assist when appropriate regarding police officers training programme.
- To administer, evaluate and partly deliver the training programme including marketing of the programme and the management of finances.
- To partly deliver and administer the Havens’ awareness raising programme.
- To work towards some income generation from Haven courses.

Training.
Co-ordinate suitable speakers/trainers, including bookings, invoicing and liaison e.g. regarding course materials.
Ensure delivery of a programme of courses including booking and management of suitable venues.
Marketing of the course programme with a view to generating some income.
To facilitate the courses on training days, including welcoming participants, speakers and all IT arrangements ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
Design course evaluation and feedback mechanisms using existing material and developing it further.
Monitor and evaluate participants’ feedback and produce evaluation reports and statistics.
Develop (and manage the development of) high quality professional training materials and handouts and ensure that they are delivered on schedule.
Communication and Team Working
Maintain quality relationships with the Metropolitan Police Service and Haven staff.
Deliver a marketing strategy, this includes internet, mailings, exhibitions and promotion materials.
Ensure appropriate and effective communication structures with all key stakeholders are upheld.
To communicate sensitive information appropriately.
Ensure all relevant data is collected, collated, and presented.
Attend all relevant meetings and ensure servicing of the meetings as appropriate to the role.
Establish and maintain good relationships with all external contacts, including health, statutory, voluntary and other agencies as necessary, with the highest regard for customer care.
Respect confidentiality and act in an appropriate professional manner.
Identify via current evidence key stakeholders / contacts to approach and work with.
Manage a database of key stakeholders and contacts.
Deliver a programme of awareness raising events, including coordinating Haven clinical and other staff availability for such.
Deliver a programme of capacity building events, including coordinating Haven clinical and other staff availability for such.
Co-ordinate Havens’ resources available for events.
Ensure ongoing communications with key stakeholders and contacts and support the building of networks across key stakeholders.
Participation in direct awareness raising and capacity building for the Havens.
Building knowledge and partnerships within relevant training delivery programmes.
Delivery of needs assessment for stakeholders and highlight benefits of communication/links to
stakeholders.
