Transport Manager

Keith Elkington Transport Ltd. – The Specialists in Foodservice Equipment Logistics.

Working hours: Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm (office based)

Main tasks

Compliance

· Keep up to date with Transport Legislation to make sure the Company is fully compliant

· International Transport Manager CPC – Operators licence updates

· Organise and fully maintain a fleet of vehicles and constantly look for ways to improve cost efficiency (see full list of duties) – Current fleet of around 8 HGVs and 20 LGVs

· Perform daily walk around checks and action findings accordingly

· Maintain breakdown cover information and search for competitive quotes

· Vehicle maintenance – liaise with suppliers and insurance brokers to arrange full repairs and claim settlements for any outstanding claims

· Oversee all Driver licence checks, Eye-sight checks and Medical checks

· Prepare and maintain all relevant paperwork for a successful FORS and ISO audits

· Perform and oversee all Administrative tasks in regards to Transport Operations (see full list of duties)

· Investigate PCNs

· Review fuel prices

· Monitor and review individual driving scores

· Produce accurate and relevant KPI’s to the Board of Directors (delivery, collections, carbon, vehicle mileage, vehicle expenditure, vehicle tracker, etc.)

· Conduct RTA investigations and submit reports to insurance brokers

· Investigate H&S related injuries, produce accident reports and implement corrective actions

· Implement processes and systems that continuously improve the Operation

· Oversee day to day Transport Operations to ensure best practice methodology is used, review and implement corrective actions

· Conduct Inductions for new employees

· Fire awareness

· Renew Environmental permits and Waste carrier licence

People/Team

· Communicate with customers effectively and resolve any complaints

· Implement a succession plan and conduct regular appraisals

· Assist with processes and procedures according to the Company’s handbook

· Implement and oversee training plans of all employees in the transport department

· Liaise with the Warehouse Manager, Planner and Managing Director in regards to all transport activities

Responsible to: Managing Director

Responsible for: The Transport Manager accomplishes department objectives and day to day tasks by supervising staff, organizing and monitoring work process.

Hours: Monday – Friday

Flexible to work weekends where required

Main Duties:

· To ensure that the team have planned and managed that all vehicles are being

utilized effectively and maximise fleet profitably.

· Day to day supervision of the drivers and the office team.

· Keep the MD informed of any major issues and any problems and what has been done to resolve them

· Responsible for transport office staff/driver recruitment and interviews

· Name and position to be added onto the company’s operator licence

· Report to the MD any MOT failures or roadside prohibitions immediately

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Transport Manager to oversee our transportation operations within our civil engineering company. The license is a restricted license. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of transport legal requirements and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Operator License Compliance, ensuring all of the promises of the license are kept
  • Manage and oversee all transportation operations for a fleet of 8 HGV’s and 80 vehicles
  • Ensure vehicles are taxed, serviced, insured and have a valid MOT
  • Ensure drivers have the correct licence to drive vehicles they are allocated
  • Ensure drivers are educated to the legislative standard and conduct educational tool box talks
  • Ensure vehicles and trailers are road worthy and maintain accurate records of transport activities and vehicle maintenance
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in place so that vehicles are not overloaded
  • Ensure drivers hours and tachograph rules are obeyed and relevant records retained
  • Ensure drivers carry out daily checks of the vehicles prior to use and that they are recorded
  • Implement a process for infringements and has power to sanction drivers for non compliance
  • Retain vehicle maintenance and driver check records for 15 months
  • Ensure company does not operate more than the maximum number of vehicles detailed in the operator’s licence
  • Ensure vehicles are only operating from the operating centre detailed in the licence
  • Ensure the traffic commissioner is notified within 28 days of any changed that affect the licence.
  • Lead and motivate the transport team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments and external partners to ensure seamless operations
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations as well as industry standards
  • Utilise IT systems to monitor transport performance and generate reports for management review.

Requirements

  • CPC in National Road Haulage
  • Proven experience in a transport management role
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a diverse team
  • Excellent organisational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions based on operational needs
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with the capability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
