What do we want?

Due to growth within the business, we are searching for an experienced MIG/TIG Welder with a fabrication background.

Duties will include:

• Fabricate bespoke products
• Weld parts to specification, ensuring high quality weld and finish
• Accurately weld steel following specifications
• Work on thin gauge stainless steel between 1mm and 3mm thickness
• Perform MIG and TIG welding on various metal products

Our business is built on repeat customers and therefore this role will play an integral role in the Company’s continued growth.

Who do we need?

• We are a strong team and want someone who will continue to support our ethos of “Stronger Together”
• Previous MIG and TIG welding experience
• Familiar with welding and fabrication techniques
• Welding qualification to NVQ level 2 as a minimum (level 3 is desirable)
• Demonstrable experience working with light gauge galvanised mild steel (1mm – 3mm) is essential
• Good fabrication skills and the ability to read technical drawings
• Excellent problem solving and attention to detail
• Accountability for own quality of work
• Excellent communication skills

ABOUT US:

MTL Advanced is a Yorkshire-based steel engineering and manufacturing company operating from a 300,000 sq. ft. facility in Rotherham.

We have invested in an extensive range of technology and equipment and provide services to a range of OEM’s from leading industries including defence, security, construction, quarrying, recycling and rail.

Our inhouse capabilities include, large format Laser Cutting and Press Braking, CNC Precision Machining, Fabrication & Welding, Shot Blasting, Painting and final Assembly.

We are on a recruitment drive for a number of experienced Welders to join our operations in the New Year. You will be joining our skilled team to perform welding activities on some of the UKs well known products, on a wide range of components in carbon steel, armour steel and aluminium. You will master a variety of techniques and work alongside others to create finished products. The majority of the work will be MIG welding where your dexterity and hand-eye coordination will help to make welds clean and precise.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

· Perform welding activities on carbon steel, armour steel, aluminium

· Weld various joint configurations in all positions

· Ensure equipment parameters are set to the optimum to fully satisfy weld quality, integrity,

· and WPS requirements

· Review engineering drawings for parts to be welded

· Satisfy production schedules to the correct quality level and within the specified time scale

· Carry out and record the daily / weekly / monthly maintenance checks and record the necessary safety checks

· Ensure correct marking up of component parts

· Ensure that the labelling system is adhered to

ABOUT YOU:

· Recent / relevant Welding / Fabrication Experience

· Understanding of quality procedures and specific customer requirements

· Ideally a coded welder

· Advanced knowledge of engineering design and manufacturing procedures

· Proficient with metal fabrication tools

· Advanced mathematical and engineering skills

· Ability to lift and manipulate large metal objects

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels

· Ability to remain focused on Quality and consistently reiterate its importance to others

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to generate innovative concepts and ideas

What your average day will look like:

07:15 – Arrive at work.

07:20 – Clock in & prep for the day ahead.

07:30 – Morning production huddle – arrive prepared to ask & answer questions regarding your production flow. Issues you had yesterday and how you have fixed them. Where you intended to get to with the current workload.

07:45 – 3S, Clean, Chores & Improvement time.

08:15 – Disperse back to work and look to continuously improve the process.

09:30 – Kaizen Meeting. We teach and train our team for 30 mins. Be prepared to be called upon to answer questions relating to the teachings of the meeting.

10:00 – Morning Break.

10:15 – Back to work.

13:00 – Lunch break.

13:30 – Afternoon production huddle. Be prepared to ask & answer questions regarding production flow. Where you intended to get to with the workload and any additional hours you may need to ensure workload is complete.

16:30 – End of day (providing no additional hours are required).

You will be on a 12 week probationary period where we will work closely with you and assess if you’re a cultural fit for us and us for you! Initially the starting rate is £13.00ph, once you have passed your probation you will receive a one off bonus for successfully completing your probation. Once your probation period has finished, you will be reviewed monthly on your character, where there is an opportunity to increase your hourly rate.

What you’ll be doing:

MIG welding. Using jigs to weld up and assemble our products to the highest possible standard (we do not require you to work from drawings)

• Welding (MIG) thin steel tubing
• A process engineer who looks to improve every process
• Keeping a safe and responsive work environment
• Quality control / attention to detail in every weld
• Focus and maintain workflow
• Helping out the team wherever possible – cross training
• Eliminate defects in the production line
• Maintain all equipment to the highest standard

What we expect from you:

• Have researched Lean Thinking, particularly Paul Akers 2 Second Lean
• Have at least beginner experience in MIG welding
• Ensure quality is added with each process
• Have a good understanding of the set up, operation and maintenance of welding equipment
• Understand and implement personal and company safety measures including using the correct PPE at all times
• Have great communication skills, they are essential to work with team members and converse with customers and clients
• Assemble all components with help of power and hand tools
• Be confident to speak up in daily company wide meetings
• Be well presented with good dress and demeanour
• You self educate by reading books
