Job Description

The Role and Responsibilities

Working as the Wellbeing and Engagement Lead, you will be an integral part of each home management team, working closely with the Registered Manager, Clinical Lead/Deputy Manager, Senior Nurses and Assistant Practitioners to ensure smooth and effective operational management.

You will be responsible for promoting positive holistic, personalised care for residents through the use of wellbeing support, behavioural interventions, and healthcare professional guidance. This will include identifying and implementing stimulating activities that improve cognition, communication and coordination for each resident. Suggest and provide ‘soft-interventions’ to help residents manage times of stress and confusion.

You will take the lead role in innovating, planning and developing a varied programme of wellbeing and engagement activities within the home, focused on more than just activities, but on nurturing overall resident care. This will involve assisting in person-centred care planning by collecting life history of residents from their next of kin and liaising with lead nurses, care staff, residents, and relatives, to ensure full knowledge of the resident’s likes, dislikes, interests, abilities and difficulties.

You will participate and engage with the management team in the home to plan personcentred activities for residents which will include organising and co-ordinating a comprehensive range of activities, encourage reminiscence, explore new opportunities and develop fresh ideas to further enhance each resident’s quality of life.

You will help the care team provide non-pharmacological interventions to those living with advanced dementia, to help manage times of stress and confusion.

Build a daily ‘home-wide’ approach to wellbeing and engagement, involving clinical and care staff and provide support and guidance to care staff to provide meaningful activities to residents on a daily basis.

Organise seasonal events and liaising with catering team for themed events.

Skills / Experience Required

  • Working as a key member of the management team of a care home, or wellbeing role working alongside multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or significant experience of innovating, developing, planning and delivering activities, stimulation and engagement to a high standard for residents within a nursing home environment.
  • Awareness of person-centred care.
  • Experience of working with older people.
  • A good understanding of dementia and SOVA.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills as you will be communicating through a variety of media – verbal and written.
  • Exemplary attention to detail; accuracy is essential as you will be updating care plans
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Computer literate and competent in use of Windows based software and systems (Outlook, Word, Excel)
