A great opportunity for a skilled fitter has come up for a client of mine in the Cardiff area.

My client, a large transport company with a sizable depot in the Cardiff area are looking to recruit skilled Workshop Supervisor / Shift Supervisor / Chargehand / Engineering Supervisor on a full-time basis.

Workshop Supervisor / Shift Supervisor / Chargehand / Engineering Supervisor Duties:

  • Confidence in managing and coaching others
  • A good understanding of fleet systems
  • Knowledge of engineering procedures
  • Technical skills and Health & Safety legislation
  • Great communicator.
  • Work delegation

Workshop Supervisor / Shift Supervisor / Chargehand / Engineering Supervisor Required:

  • Possession of a full UK Driving licence is required
  • Holding a Commercial Licence would be an advantage, however driver training can be provided
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualifications in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance

Workshop Supervisor Responsibilities:

As a Workshop Supervisor, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the workshop while delivering exceptional customer service. Your key duties will include:

  • Managing workshop schedules, prioritising repairs, and ensuring all work meets top standards.
  • Supporting managers to optimise repair costs and minimise trailer downtime.
  • Overseeing inspections, servicing, and repairs both onsite and at customer locations.
  • Maintaining workshop systems, ensuring compliance with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Monitoring stock levels and processing documentation efficiently.
  • Analysing maintenance trends and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Supervising team workflows, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE.
  • Providing feedback, driving high standards, and fostering a positive team environment.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service, highlighting potential commercial opportunities.

Workshop Supervisor experience / skills needed

We’re seeking a passionate leader with the following qualifications and skills:

  • Fully qualified technician with “Time Served” experience or City & Guilds Level 1, 2, & 3 (or equivalent).
  • Strong background in trailer repairs and workshop operations.
  • A proven ability to supervise and lead a team, with excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of prioritising workloads under minimal supervision.

My client, a well-established fleet maintenance company with depots across the UK is actively seeing to employ an experienced and qualified Workshop Supervisor to be based out of a depot in the West Bromwich area to work on a full time permanent basis. Working on an internal fleet of trucks (DAF & IVECO) and Trailers (Don-bur & Cartwrights)

Workshop Supervisor duties

To carry out the safe and efficient inspection, service and repair of all vehicles, trailers and ancillary equipment in line with agreed schedules and operating procedures

  • Ensuring repairs are carried out to meet or exceed the minimum standards as laid down by VOSA.
  • Complete MOT quality checks
  • Distribute work to other technicians on the shift
  • Carry out duties in a manner consistent with established safety, environmental and maintenance procedures.
  • Work with VMU shift Co-ordinator / FLM and Logistics team to ensure vehicle availability in accordance with delivery schedules.
  • To achieve shift KPI’s by working in an efficient and effective manner.
  • To ensure that vehicles other fleet assets are maintained in accordance with company and VOSA standards.
  • Assist the VMU Co-ordinator / FLM to liaise with the Transport and Logistics departments about vehicle availability.

Workshop Supervisor qualifications required

  • In order to qualify for the role, the successful HGV Technician will have industry recognised qualifications (NVQ or City & Guilds) or be time served on heavies
  • You must have detailed experience as an HGV Technicianand be familiar with modern commercial vehicles. Previous workshop supervisory experience is essential
  • Previous experienced gained in HGV fleet maintenance operations
  • Good planning and organisational skills

We are looking for Workshop supervisor to join the team at our Tameside Community Equipment Service Centre. You will support the day-to-day efficient running of the depot. Your key focuses will be support to the Operations team, as well as leadership of the workshop team.

The Role:

  • Motivate, organise and encourage teamwork to ensure KPI targets are met or exceeded
  • Day to day efficient running of the workshop and decontamination areas
  • Ensuring stock is correctly issued, received and maintained. Support stock checks, making adjustments and accounting for any variances
  • Conduct daily warehouse walks to inspect the warehouse. This is to ensure the warehouse in its entirety is safe to work in.
  • Carry out and supervise decontamination of the community equipment in line with MHRA guidelines
  • Correctly quarantine, sterilise and re-pack equipment and ensure paperwork is correctly documented, logged and filed creating a clear audit trail
  • Receiving all collected and returned stock at back door
  • Ensuring invoice accuracy for all collections/returns by checking goods received note in conjunction with each driver
  • Identify training needs for driver’s on processes as required
  • Picking, packing and loading equipment to assist with the field based technicians
  • Continual updating of order and stock systems with use of scanner
  • Maintenance and housekeeping of the service centre, including in some cases repairs of our equipment including PAT testing

You will ideally be able to cover for the management team during absence/holiday.


About you:

  • Previous Team Leader experience is desirable preferably within the Healthcare sector
  • Experience of stock control preferable.
  • Logistics, Administration and Customer Services experience desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with internal staff, prescribers and Service Users
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be proactive
  • Willingness to learn and develop within the role and company
  • Must be able to work off their own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail
  • Full UK Driving Licence
